5)- THE TEN COMMANDMENTS IN LIFE.

Very inspirational, just like ten commandments to follow in the life all the time - GEMS of Wisdom!

i] Prayer is not a "spare wheel" that you pull out when in trouble, but it is a "steering wheel" that directs the right path throughout

ii] Do you know why a cars' WINDSHIELD is so large & the Rear-view Mirror is so small? Because our PAST is not as important as our FUTURE. Look Ahead and Move on!

iii] Friendship is like a BOOK. It takes few seconds to burn, but it takes years to write one!

iv] All things in life are temporary. If going well, enjoy it, they will not last forever. If going wrong, don't worry, they can't last long either.

v] Old Friends are Gold! New Friends are Diamond! If you get a Diamond, don't forget the Gold! Because to hold a Diamond, you always need a Base of Gold!

vi] Often when we lose hope and think this is the end, GOD smiles from above and says, "Relax, sweetheart, it's just a bend, not the end!

vii] When GOD solves your problems, you have faith in HIS abilities; when GOD doesn't solve your problems HE has faith in your abilities.

viii] A blind person asked Swami Vivekanand: "Can there be anything worse than losing eye sight?" He replied: "Yes, losing your vision!"

ix] When you pray for others, God listens to you and blesses them, and sometimes, when you are safe and happy, remember that someone has prayed for you.

x] WORRYING does not take away tomorrow’s TROUBLES, it takes away today’s PEACE!

6)- THE ART OF GIVING.
Courtesy- My Friend, C.G.S.Manion
"Rivers do not drink their own water, nor do tree eat their own fruit, nor do rain clouds eat the grains reared by them. The wealth of the noble is used solely for the benefit of others?

Even after accepting that giving is good and that one must learn to give, several questions need to be answered.

The first question is 'when should one give?'

Yudhisthir asks a beggar seeking alms to come the next day. On this, Bhim rejoices, that Yudhisthir his brother, has conquered death! For he is sure that he will be around tomorrow to give. Yudhisthir gets the message.

One does not know really whether one will be there tomorrow to give! The time to give therefore is NOW.

The next question is 'how much to give?'

One recalls the famous incident from history.

Rana Pratap was reeling after defeat from the Moghals. He had lost his army , he had lost his wealth , and most important he had lost hope, his will to fight.

At that time in his darkest hour , his erstwhile minister Bhamasha came seeking him and placed his entire fortune at the disposal of Rana Pratap. With this, Rana Pratap raised an army and lived to fight another day.

The answer to this question how much to give is " Give as much as you can!

The next question is 'what to give?'

It is not only money that can be given. It could be a flower or even a smile. It is not how much one gives but how one gives that really matters.

When you give a smile to a stranger that may be the only good thing received by him in days and weeks!

"You can give anything but you must give with your heart !

One also needs answer to this question 'whom to give?'

Many times we avoid giving by finding fault with the person who is seeking.

However, being judgmental and rejecting a person on the presumption that he may not be the most deserving is not justified.

"Give without being judgmental!"

Next we have to answer 'How to give?

Coming to the manner of giving, one has to ensure that the receiver does not feel humiliated, nor the giver feels proud by giving.

'Let not your left hand know what your right hand gives?

Charity without publicity and fanfare, is the highest form of charity.

'Give quietly !

While giving let not the recipient feel small or humiliated.

After all what we give never really belonged to us.

We come to this world with nothing and will go with nothing.

The thing gifted was only with us for a temporary period.

Why then take pride in giving away something which really did not belong to us?

Give with grace and with a feeling of gratitude.

What should one feel after giving ?

We all know the story of Eklavya. When Dronacharya asked him for his right thumb as "Guru = Dakshina".
He unhesitatingly cut off the thumb and gave it to Dronacharya.
There is a little known sequel to this story.. Eklavya was asked whether he ever regretted the act of giving away his thumb when he was dying.
His reply was "Yes ! I regretted this only once in my life. It was when Pandavas were coming in to kill Dronacharya who was broken hearted on the false news of death of his son Ashwathama and had stopped fighting.
It was then that I regretted the loss of my thumb.
If the thumb was there, no one could have dared hurt my Guru?
The message to us is clear.
Give and never regret giving !

And the last question is ' How much should we provide for our heirs ?

Ask yourself , 'Are we taking away from them the "gift of work? - a source of happiness!'

The answer is given by Warren Buffett: "Leave your kids enough to do anything, but not enough to do nothing!"

I would conclude by saying: let us learn the Art of Giving, and quoting

Sant Kabir:

When the wealth in the house increases ,

When water fills a boat ,

Throw them out with both hands !

This is the wise thing to do!

7)- APPEAL FROM YAHOO GROUP OF THATHA PATTI.

Here is an Appeal placed below which is self-explanatory please!

Hi all,

I am doing this in memory of my beloved music teacher Mrs. Vijaya Raman who

passed away last year due to heart disease. She was a wonderful lady (mother

like) and she was suffering for heart related complications for quite a few

years and finally passed away March 2009. She was born in September which is all

the more reason for me to do it tomorrow. I have a very ambitious goal and hope

you can help.

This year, I am participating in the American Heart Association's Bay Area

Start! Heart Walk. It’s like a big party – we celebrate those who are survivors,

those who have pledged to live healthier lives, and those whose research has led

to amazing medical advances. We celebrate the people whose generosity makes all

the research and medical advances possible. I’d like you to join the

celebration.

My personal goal is to raise as much money as possible for the American Heart

Association, and I need your help to succeed! We are raising critical dollars

for heart disease and stroke research and education.

You can help me reach my goal by making a tax deductible donation online. Click

on the link below and you will be taken to my personal donation page where you

can make a secure online credit card donation. (The American Heart Association's

online fundraising website has a minimum donation amount of $25.00. If you

8)- The Case of the Screaming Man
- Paula Lyons

As everyone knows, the human body has orifices. Occasionally, these become occluded, or occupied, by things that aren't supposed to be there. Every doctor knows this, as does almost everyone else. Who hasn't heard, as a child, the cautionary phrase "Don't stick beans up your nose"?

Human nature being what it is, almost every clinician must deal with foreign objects--flora, fauna--that have been put into places where they don't belong. Sometimes, though, "beans" can materialize without a patient's permission.

Here is one such case--a personal favorite of mine--that I've mentally entitled "The Screaming Man."

I was back in the furthermost part of the clinic, arguing with an insurance company representative about the need for a patient's CT scan, when one of our receptionists ran up.

"Dr. Lyons! There's a man screaming in the waiting room!"

"Is he bleeding?"

"No, he's banging his head with his hands and screaming! I think he might be crazy!"

I ran to the front. There in our packed waiting room was in fact a seemingly crazy man, screaming, dancing around and batting at his left ear with both hands. The other patients were cringing away from him, their eyes wide. He was burly, dressed in a City laborer's jumpsuit soiled with leaves and debris. With every leap, his heavy work boots left red mud clods on the floor.

"Jesus Christ, help me! Get it out! Get it OUT! It's MOVING!"

Okay, now I had a clue. I grabbed the man by his suit front, assured him that we would help and pulled him into an exam room, calling for the ear, nose and throat tray and some mineral oil.

When I looked through the otoscope into his left ear, I nearly screamed myself: Staring back at me were the multiple, horrifyingly enlarged eyes of a common spider. Probably equally terrified, it was clinging with all eight legs to the inside of this man's ear canal.

Now the cause of my patient's frenzy was clear. Once an arthropod (as the medical literature likes to call spiders and insects) makes its way into the human ear, every one of its tiny movements sounds as loud as a jet airplane to its unfortunate host. Add to this the creepy knowledge that your ear has been "invaded" by a creature that would make you recoil if you encountered it in the bathroom sink, and you have the perfect recipe for temporary insanity.

My patient, calming down a bit, explained that he had been clearing brush with one of his coworkers close behind and had felt a tickling sensation on top of his left ear. Suspecting a joke perpetrated by his coworker, he had swiped at the ear, only to feel the sensation of many wriggling feet running for cover, right into the nearest dark hole.

Now that I'd had a chance to assess the situation, I realized that only one of my two patients could survive. I chose to save the larger. A syringe of mineral oil, gently instilled, quickly euthanized the spider, and I washed the tiny carcass out of the man's ear with saline.

One part of me rejoiced at the relief in my human patient's face, now that he'd been freed from the tormenting interior flamenco dance. Another part of me wondered wryly if we should be playing "Taps" for the intrepid arachnid explorer.

The man insisted that I spread its draggled corpse with forceps so that he could make sure that none of the legs remained within his ear. Together, we counted all eight. Then he paused and reflected.

"Doc, you don't think it had time to lay eggs in there, do you?"

I hid my smile. "No, certainly not."

My patient began to recover his composure--and his swagger. He asked me to place the tiny body in a sterile urine container so he could show his friends the proof of his ordeal. By the time he left our clinic, amid the smiles and congratulations of the staff, I felt certain that, had the spider been just a bit larger, he would have had it stuffed and mounted.

The clinic staff and I went on to enjoy a long and congenial relationship with this patient--whose nickname forever after, of course, was "Spider Man."

After spending nearly 40 years as a training ship, it is now permanently returned & anchored at Charlestown Navyyard of Boston as an Exhibit for the Public. It is the Oldest commissioned Warship afloat in the world!

Bird- Chickadee.
Flower- Mayflower.
Beverage- Canberry Juice.
Nickname- The Bay state.

ALABAMA- is the 2nd State taken up now, alphabetically to start with, follwed by 48 more due in the ensuing Blogs. As you are aware now, each & every State have their own National Flag, Logo, Motto, Nickname, bird, flower, etc.
Capital of Alabama- Montgomeri.
Bird- yellowhammer.
Flower-  Camellia.
Motto- ' We dare defend our rights!'
Nickname- ' The heart of Dixie ' or ' The Cotton State '
State Nut- Pecan.
It became state of US in 1819.

5)- PUZZLES FOR A CHANGE:
Courtesy- Thatha Patti Group of Yahoo.

Below are four (4) questions and a bonus question. You have to answer them instantly. You can't take your time, answer all of them immediately. OK?
Let's find out just how clever you really are.
Ready? GO!!! (scroll down very slowly only to the end of each question)

First Question:
You are participating in a race. You overtake the second person. What position are you in?

Answer: If you answered that you are first, then you are

absolutely wrong! If you overtake the second person and you take his place, you are second!

Try not to screw up in the next question.

To answer the second question, don't take as much time as you took for the first question.

Second Question:

If you overtake the last person, then you are...?

Answer: If you answered that you are second to last, then you are wrong again. Tell me, how can you overtake the LAST Person?

You're not very good at this! Are you?

Third Question:

Very tricky math! Note: This must be done in your head only.

Do NOT use paper! and pencil or a calculator. Try it.

Take 1000 and add 40 to it. Now add another 1000. Now add 30. Add another 1000. Now add 20. Now add another 1000

Now add 10. What is the total?

Scroll down for answer.

Did you get 5000? The correct answer is actually 4100.

Don't believe it? Check with your calculator! Today is definitely not your day. Maybe you will get the last question right?

Mary's father has five daughters: 1. Nana, 2. Nene, 3. Nini,

4. Nono.
What is the name of the fifth daughter?

Answer: Nunu?

NO! Of course not. Her name is Mary. Read the question again
Okay, now the bonus round.

There is a mute person who wants to buy a toothbrush. By

imitating the action of brushing one's teeth he successfully

expresses himself to the shopkeeper and the purchase is

done.

Now if there is a blind man who wishes to buy a pair of

sunglasses, how should he express himself?

He just has to open his mouth and ask, so simple.

KEEP THIS GOING TO FRUSTRATE THE SMART PEOPLE IN YOUR LIFE!

6)- BELIEVE IT OR NOT!

As Seen on National TV - The Giveaway Loophole!Sunday, 11 March, 2007  Thatha_Patty@yahoogroups.com

I can relate very easily to what the woman posted below since I have

been a cashier at a major supermarket for over 20 years. Please

forgive for not mentioning the chain but I am afraid of getting fired

since we were given strict orders not to tell anybody about this

program - http://savemoreusa. com
For the past twenty years I have

seen customers use this very program and save a minimum of 75% on

their orders. I have never seen a better program than this one. I

myself signed up for their sampler in 1982 and the savings have been

out of this world. My customers use many different programs but I can

attest that not one of them comes close to this one.

Joan

[original message]

In life, timing is indeed everything. Last week I was waiting in line

behind a woman who had an overflowing cart of items at our local

grocery store. It was one of those days where every other line was a

half mile long. When this woman was finaly rung up she owed $627.79,

my eyes nearly fell out. I had noticed that she was getting two,

three and four of similar items. She had everything medicines,

cosmetics, toiletries, cleaners, hardware, pet items, food, etc. She

then handed the cashier a twenty dollar bill and received a ten and

change back. My curiosity was killing me but I didn't have the nerve

to ask the woman what happened. Once she was out of hearing distance,

I asked the cashier. She told me that the woman was part of the

program at - http://savemoreusa. com
The cashier told me that she

has several customers who are also part of it also receiving the same

type of savings. In fact she told me that she joined as well. Well

after witnessing that I rushed home and signed up immediately. I

can't wait to start loading up full carts and paying practically

nothing for it!

7)- FOOD FOR THOUGHT /
A wonderful story

A woman came out of her house and saw 3 old men with long white beards sitting in her front yard. She did not recognize them. She said "I don't think I know you, but you must be hungry. Please come in and have something to eat."

"Is the man of the house home?", they asked.

"No", she replied. "He's out."

"Then we cannot come in", they replied.

In the evening when her husband came home, she told him what had happened.

"Go tell them I am home and invite them in!"

The woman went out and invited the men in"

" We do not go into a House together," they replied.

"Why is that?" she asked.

One of the old men explained: "His name is Wealth," he said pointing to one of his friends, and said pointing to another one, "He is Success, and I am Love." Then he added, "Now go in and discuss with your husband which one of us you want in your home."

The woman went in and told her husband what was said. Her husband was overjoyed. "How n ice!!", he said. "Since that is the case, let us invite Wealth. Let him come and fill our home with wealth!"

His wife disagreed. "My dear, why don't we invite Success?"

Their daughter was listening from the other corner of the house. She jumped in with her own suggestion: "Would it not be better to invite Love? Our home will then be filled with love!"

"Let us heed our daughter's advice," said the husband to his wife.

"Go out and invite Love to be our guest ."

The woman went out and asked the 3 old men, "Which one of you is Love? Please come in and be our guest."

Love got up and started walking toward the house. The other 2 also got up and followed him. Surprised, t he lady asked Wealth and Success: "I only invited Love, Why are you coming in?"

The old men replied together: "If you had invited Wealth or Success, the other two of us would've stayed out, but since you invited Love, wherever He goes, we go with him. Wherever there is Love, there is also Wealth and Success !!!!!!"

1)- US History ( continued )

We have so far dealt in general about USA in the last few Blogs.
Henceforth, all Fifty States of US will be taken up one by one in detail only by which we will be able to know how they differ from the States of our own Country on History, Culture, Governance, etc.
To start with, let us know about The State of Massachusetts for which Boston is the Capital where we are camping on vacation as Visitors. Just click the Link below for the Facts on this Great Historical City & the State as well!

2)- US MEDIA ON OUR CULTURE
i)- Certain examples of Media exposure to our culture were highlighted in the previous Blogs.
Here is another classic example where Newyork Times, the leading newspaper of USA, has brought out an Article on Golden Temple of Amritsar focusing on its History, Architecture, Prayers & Charity Feeding on Mass scale daily for visitors irrespective of caste & creed! Just click the Link below for details.

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/08/30/world/asia/30india.html?_r=1&ref=india

ii)- For the sake of Humour, we use to share ' Sardarji Jokes ' among ourselves time & again, 'On-line' as well as 'Off-line' ! It is however amazing to observe how serious & devoted they are towards their religion & culture wherever they live across the Globe.
Here are two more snaps on them, captured in my camera at Boston Down-town where a group of Sikhs with their families celebrated one of their religious functions sporting T-shirts displaying words- 'I am proud to be Sikh; proud to serve!'Words can be seen in the Photos. We both were on sight-seeing by chance around that area when they invited us also to take part & fed us with Drinks, Snacks & Lunch! It was very impressive to watch that even Natives could be seen enjoying such hospitality in & around us.

iii)- Here is also an unique Sardarji chanting Devotional songs on Lord Muruga at our own capital, New Delhi. Just click the Link below & enjoy.

Subject: Sardar

We all love Sardar jokes. But do you know that Sikhs are one of the

most hard working prosperous and diversified communities in the world.

My friend told me about the following incident which I wish to share

with you. It has had a deep impact on my thinking.

During last vacation, my few friends went to Delhi. They rented a taxi

for local sight-seeing. The driver was an old Sardar and boys being

boys, these pals began cracking Sardarji jokes, just to tease the old

man. But to their surprise, the fellow remained unperturbed.

At the end of the sight-seeing, they paid the cab hire-charges. The

Sardar returned the change, but he gave each one of them one rupee

extra and said, ''Son, since morning you have been telling Sardarji

jokes. I listened to them all and let me tell you, some of them were

in bad taste. Still, I don't mind coz I know that you are young blood

and are yet to see the world. But I have one request. I am giving you

one rupee each. Give it to the first Sardar beggar that you come

across in this or any other city.'

My friend continued,* ' That one rupee coin is still with me. I

couldn't find a single Sardar begging anywhere.'

MORAL: The secret behind their universal success, is their willingness

to do any job with utmost dedication and pride. A Sardar will drive a

truck or set up a roadside garage or a dhaba, put a fruit juice stall,

take up small time carpentry,.. ........ but he will never beg.
More such events, few of them humorous, occured in my own down Memory Lane, will be shared in Blogs to follow!

5)- FOOD FOR THOUGHT
Life, a laughing matter

Laugh relieves boredom, eases tension and enlivens the atmosphere. Laughing at oneself is a good way to keep one’s ego in check. Yet `serious’ spiritual seekers tend to think that humour and spirituality are poles apart. This is far from the truth.

Evolved masters have a sense of humour, and they often use humour to drive home a point. Gurus like Kanchi Paramacharya, Ramana Maharshi, Swami Chinmaynanda and Swami Dayananda Saraswati sprinkled their talks liberally with humour.

Swami Chinmayananda was once scouting for a suitable venue in Chennai to hold his Geeta Gyana Yagna. Most temples, under the dominant influence of Brahmins, were reluctant to help out. Finally, one of his disciples rushed to him with the news that a Muslim was ready to make available his empty bungalow for the purpose. “But there is a problem,” said the disciple, “the house is believed to be haunted.” On hearing this, the Swami quipped: “What a wonderful opportunity! I’ve never seen a ghost in my life!”

Every morning, Ramana Maharshi would walk up the Arunachala hill. Once a stranger spotted him all alone, and wishing to have darshan, he walked faster and managed to overtake the Maharshi and stood in front of him, blocking his way. With folded palms he said “Swamiji, this is a great day for me. You have blessed me with your darshan.” The Maharshi responded: “This is really funny. What darshan you’re talking about? It is you who have come before me and given me your darshan.”

On another occasion a group of American devotees who were seated at a distance from Maharshi because of the crowd, asked him whether they could move forward so that Maharshi’s grace will be upon them. Maharshi replied that he has no objection to their moving forward but his grace was always there for everyone irrespective of proximity. The group, nonetheless, pushed forward and almost came near him. After some time the devotees requested Maharshi to place his palms on their head so that they can receive the grace in full measure. An amused Maharshi said: “next you might ask me to sign a bond and take me to court if you imagine that the grace has not worked!” The entire gathering burst into laughter.

While delivering a discourse on the Gita Swami Dayananda Saraswati narrated the following story: There were three terminally ill patients and the doctor asked them to express their last wish so that he could arrange to fulfill them. The first patient said that he would like to meet the priest and confess. The second said that he would like to meet his entire family. The doctor took care of the requests. He turned to the third patient who muttered: “I’d like to see another doctor.”

A scholar approached Kanchi Paramacharya and boasted that he was an expert on the Gita. The seer asked him if he could spare some time to hold a 10-day discourse at the local temple. The scholar assented. On the first day 50 people were came to hear him and the attendance dwindled on subsequent days. The scholar said to Paramacharya: “What sort of a town is this? No one seems to be interested in the Gita. On first day there was a crowd of 50, second day 25 and on the third day there were only two persons to listen to me!”

With a twinkle in his eye the seer remarked: “Why fret? When Krishna spoke the Gita there was only one person to listen to him!”

This summer, when Kellogg recalled 28 million boxes of Froot Loops, Apple Jacks, Corn Pops and Honey Smacks, the company blamed elevated levels of a chemical in the packaging.

Dozens of consumers reported a strange taste and odor, and some complained of nausea and diarrhea. But Kellogg said a team of experts it hired determined that there was "no harmful material" in the products.

Federal regulators, who are charged with ensuring the safety of food and consumer products, are in the dark about the suspected chemical, 2-methylnaphthalene. The Food and Drug Administration has no scientific data on its impact on human health. The Environmental Protection Agency also lacks basic health and safety data for 2-methylnaphthalene -- even though the EPA has been seeking that information from the chemical industry for 16 years.

The cereal recall hints at a larger issue: huge gaps in the government's knowledge about chemicals in everyday consumer products, from furniture to clothing to children's products. Under current laws, the government has little or no information about the health risks posed by most of the 80,000 chemicals on the U.S. market today.

"It is really troubling that you've got this form of naphthalene that's produced in millions of pounds a year and we don't have some of the basic information about how toxic it is," said Erik Olson, an expert at the Pew Charitable Trusts, which is advocating an overhaul of U.S. chemical laws. "In so many cases, government agencies are missing data they need on even widely used chemicals about whether they pose a health risk."

The information gap is hardly new. When the Toxic Substances Control Act was passed in 1976, it exempted from regulation about 62,000 chemicals that were in commercial use -- including 2-methylnaphthalene. In addition, chemicals developed since the law's passage do not have to be tested for safety. Instead, companies are asked to volunteer information on the health effects of their compounds, and the government can decide whether additional tests are needed.

In 1994, the EPA invited the chemical industry to submit health and safety data for 2-methylnaphthalene because it was being produced in large quantities, said Mary F. Dominiak of the EPA. Chemical manufacturers have yet to disclose that information, she said.

And they may not even have it. If a manufacturer possesses data showing that a chemical harms health or the environment, it is required to turn over the findings to the EPA. Critics say that creates a disincentive for manufacturers to test their chemicals.

Kellogg responded to a request for comment by referring to the statement it issued with its recall, which said, "While the potential for serious health problems is low, some consumers are sensitive to the uncharacteristic off-flavor and smell and should not eat the recalled products because of possible temporary symptoms including nausea and diarrhea."

Bills pending in Congress would revamp the way the government regulates chemicals, forcing companies to prove that new chemicals are safe before using them and requiring health and safety assessments of existing chemicals, such as 2-methylnaphthalene. The chemical industry has said it agrees the law should be revamped, but it also has expressed concern that new restrictions might hamper innovation and competitiveness.

One federal agency has minimal information about 2-methylnaphthalene -- the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry, which reviewed the scientific literature on the chemical in 2005. It concluded that nothing is known about its use related to food. "You are not likely to be exposed . . . eating foods or drinking beverages" and risk exposure only "if you live near a hazardous waste site," according to the agency's Web site.

A natural component of crude oil, 2-methylnaphthalene is structurally related to naphthalene, an ingredient in mothballs and toilet-deodorant blocks that is considered a possible human carcinogen by the EPA. Kay Cooksey, a packaging expert at Clemson University, said 2-methylnaphthalene likely ended up in cereal because something went awry in the manufacturing of the foil-lined bags. The foil is attached to the paper bag with an adhesive that is heated, she said. If too much heat is applied or if the composition of the adhesive is incorrect, 2-methylnaphthalene could form, she said.

The chemical "is not supposed to be in food," said Mitchell Cheeseman of the FDA's office of food safety. The agency allows a minute amount of the chemical in food packaging if it is produced as a "contaminant" during the manufacturing process, but it is not supposed to transfer to the food, he said.

Because the FDA does not know anything about the toxicity of 2-methylnaphthalene, the agency set its limit based on what it knows about the toxic effects of similar chemicals, Cheeseman said.

He added that the FDA does not know what caused the Kellogg contamination, how much 2-methylnaphthalene might have migrated into the cereals or if it was the only contaminant. The agency did not perform its own tests on the cereals.

Roberta Wagner of the FDA's Office of Regulatory Affairs said Kellogg destroyed most of the tainted liners before it contacted the agency and announced a recall.

"Basically, Kellogg's investigated the situation before they made the decision to do the recall," Wagner said. "They did their own testing." She said the agency continues to investigate.

The company submitted a copy of its health risk assessment to the FDA, but neither Kellogg nor the agency would release it.

Cheeseman said it is unusual for contaminants to migrate from packaging into foods.

But others are less certain. "In this case, it had an odor and it had a taste, so it was detected," said David Andrews, a senior scientist at the Environmental Working Group, an advocacy organization. "But there are hundreds of other potential impurities that we can't smell and taste, chemicals that we know very little about and the government knows little about."

Subject: FW: Think....esp Electrical engineers

Needs a lot of Thinking... Can you answer this?

Once there was a bus conductor, who was very rude to his passengers. One day a beautiful young girl, of around 18 years, tried to board the bus, but he didn't stop the bus. Unfortunately the beautiful young girl came under the bus and died on the spot.

Angry passengers took the conductor to the police station, who in turn took him to the court.

The judge was not at all impressed with him and gave him capital punishment.

He was taken to the electrocution chamber.

There was a single chair in the center of the room and a single banana peel at one corner of the room.

The conductor was strapped to the chair and high voltage current was given to him! .

But to everyone's amazement, he survived.

The judge decided to set him free, and he returned to his profession.

After a few months, this time, a good looking middle aged woman tried to board the bus but the conductor didn't stop the bus.

Unfortunately, this time also, the good looking middle aged woman came under the bus and died on the spot. Again angry passengers took him to the police station, who in turn took him to the court.

The judge took one look at the conductor and gave him capital punishment.

The Bus conductor was taken to the same electrocution chamber where there was a single chair in the center of the room and a single banana peel at one corner of the room.

He was strapped to the chair and high voltage current was given to him.

This time also to everyone's amazement, he survived.

The judge decided to set him free, and he returned to his profession.

A couple of months later, an elderly gentleman tried to board the bus.

This time the Bus conductor, remembering his earlier experiences, stopped the bus.

Unfortunately the elderly gentleman slipped and died due to his injuries.

The conductor was taken to the police station and then to the court, to the same judge.

Though he hadn't done anything wrong, but considering his past record the judge decided to set an example and gave him capital punishment.

The Bus conductor was again taken to the same electrocution chamber where there was a single chair in the center of the room and a single banana peel at one corner of the room.

He was strapped to the chair and high voltage current was given to him.

This time he died instantly !!!!!!!!!!!

The question is why didn't he die on the first two occasions, but died instantly the third time??

Try to solve it yourselves. This is rather interesting and answer is perfectly logical.

If necessary read the puzzle once again.

Still you couldn't, Then see below...

Think hard

Tired????

wanna know the answer????

Answer :

During the first two times, the conductor was a Bad Conductor, therefore electricity didn't pass through him.

But during the third time, he was a Good conductor, electricity passed through him freely and he died!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!! !

Ha Ha Ha ha !!!!!!!! Obviously you gotta revise your science chapter on Electricity..................Back to Basics..

HUMOUR:
A young couple had been arguing about what new vehicle they would buy. He wanted a big truck, but she wanted a sports car.

After about an hour the woman had to leave, and said, "look, all I want is something that goes from 0 to 200 in less than four seconds. My birthday is coming up next week, buy something that will surprise me!"

A week later she opened her present, a new set of bathroom scales!

2. It will be my wife's birthday tomorrow. When I asked her what she wanted, she said something with diamonds would be nice. I've bought her a packet of playing cards.

3. The President Bush, while visiting a primary school class, found themselves in the middle of a discussion related to words and their meanings. The teacher asked both men if they would like to lead the discussion of the word "tragedy". So the illustrious George Bush asks the class for an example of a "tragedy".

One little boy stood up and offered: "If my best friend, who lives on a farm, is playing in the field and a runaway tractor comes along and knocks him dead, that would be a tragedy." No," says the Great Jesse Jackson, "that would be an accident."

A little girl raised her hand: "If a school bus carrying 50 children drove over a cliff, killing everyone inside, that would be a tragedy." I'm afraid not," explains the exalted Bush. "That's what we would call a great loss. " The room goes silent. No other children volunteered.

Bush searches the room. "Isn't there someone here who can give me an example of a tragedy?" Finally at the back of the room little Johnny raises his hand. In a stern voice he says: "If a plane carrying George Bush were struck by a missile and blown to smithereens that would be a tragedy." Fantastic!" exclaims Bush, "That's right. And can you tell me why that would be a tragedy?"

"Well," says little Johnny, "because it sure as hell wouldn't be a great loss, and it probably wouldn't be an accident either!!!
The last Humour on BUSH just shows how much freedom is available & utilised by the Media, Press & the Public in this country towards criticism of Govt. Authorities including The President! All of us are aware of recent incident where set of Shoes were hurled at President Bush at the stage by a citizen during a Public Meeting & how Mr. Bush took it sportively/ jokingly!

From The Hindu of date

Life can begin at 60, it is all in your hands!

S. RAMACHANDRAN- Thatha Patti Group- Yahoo!

Many people feel unhappy, health-wise and security-wise, after 60 years of age owing to the diminishing importance given to them and their opinion. But it need not be so, if only we understand the basic principles of life and follow them scrupulously. Here are ten mantras to age gracefully and make life after retirement pleasant.

1. Never say ‘I am aged': There are three ages, chronological, biological, and psychological. The first is calculated based on our date of birth; the second is determined by the health conditions and the third is how old you feel you are. While we don't have control over the first, we can take care of our health with good diet, exercise and a cheerful attitude. A positive attitude and optimistic thinking can reverse the third age.

2. Health is wealth: If you really love your kith and kin, taking care of your health should be your priority. Thus, you will not be a burden to them. Have an annual health check-up and take the prescribed medicines regularly. Do take health insurance cover.

3. Money is important: Money is essential for meeting the basic necessities of life, keeping good health and earning family respect and security. Don't spend beyond your means even for your children. You have lived for them all through and it is time you enjoyed a harmonious life with your spouse. If your children are grateful and they take care of you, you are blessed. But never take it for granted.

4. Relaxation and recreation: The most relaxing and recreating forces are a healthy religious attitude, good sleep, music and laughter. Have faith in God, learn to sleep well, love good music and see the funny side of life.

5. Time is precious: It is almost like holding a horse's reins. When they are in your hands, you can control them. Imagine that everyday you are born again. Yesterday is a cancelled cheque. Tomorrow is a promissory note. Today is ready cash — use it profitably. Live this moment.

6. Change is the only permanent thing: We should accept change — it is inevitable. The only way to make sense out of change is to join the dance. Change has brought about many pleasant things. We should be happy that our children are blessed.

7. Enlightened selfishness: All of us are basically selfish. Whatever we do, we expect something in return. We should definitely be grateful to those who stood by us. But our focus should be on the internal satisfaction and happiness we derive by doing good to others, without expecting anything in return.

8. Forget and forgive: Don't be bothered too much about others' mistakes. We are not spiritual enough to show our other cheek when we are slapped in one. But for the sake of our own health and happiness, let us forgive and forget them. Otherwise, we will be only increasing our BP.

9. Everything has a purpose: Take life as it comes. Accept yourself as you are and also accept others for what they are. Everybody is unique and right in his own way.

10. Overcome the fear of death: We all know that one day we have to leave this world. Still we are afraid of death. We think that our spouse and children will be unable to withstand our loss. But the truth is no one is going to die for you; they may be depressed for some time. Time heals everything and they will carry on.
THESE ARE THE TEN STEPS I AM TRYING MY BEST TO FOLLOW IN MY OWN LIFE DURING THE REST OF MY PERIOD AHEAD!- HOPE I WILL SUCCEED BY THE GRACE OF GOD!

ANUBHAVAM PUDHUMAI- 16/ Whale Watch, Boston.

Before proceeding with Whale-watch, let us study the Mind-set of our Kids! Here is an example of Parents solving their own problem in their own way to tackle their Kids!- Courtesy- Thatha Patti Group of Yahoo.

A couple had two little boys, ages 8 and 10, that were excessively mischievous. The two were always getting into trouble and their parents could be assured that if any mischief occurred in their town their two young sons were in some way involved. The parents were at their wits end as to what to do about their sons' behavior.

The mother had heard that a clergyman in town had been successful in disciplining children in the past, so she asked her husband if he thought they should send the boys to speak with the clergyman.

The husband said, "We might as well. We need to do something before I really lose my temper!"

The clergyman agreed to speak with the boys, but asked to see them individually.

The 8-year-old went to meet with him first. The clergyman sat the boy down and asked him sternly, "Where is god?"

The boy made no response, so the clergyman repeated the question in an even sterner tone, "Where is god?"

Again the boy made no attempt to answer, so the clergyman raised his voice even more and shook his finger in the boy's face, "WHERE IS GOD?"

At that the boy bolted from the room and ran directly home slamming himself in his closet.

His older brother followed him into the closet and said, "What happened?" The younger brother replied, "We are in BIG trouble this time. God is missing and they think we did it"

STATES OF US:
USA was formed initially in the year 1776 with Declaration of Independence by 13 American Colonies from the British Rule. One way that these States tried to show their independence was breaking away from the British English in its writing.
In 1778, Benjamin Franklin proposed new Alphabet for American English & then, an American Dictionary in the English language was however published by Noah Webster with only marginal changes with British English. Also, at later Stages, major changes were given effect in the public life with respect to LH Drive, Utilities, etc. in contrast to the British mode of life. Here are the two Extracts from- CHILDREN'S ILLUSTRATED ENCYCLOPEDIA of Dorling Kindersley  produced below in this regard.

1- I was at the checkout of a K-Mart. The clerk rang up $46.64 charge. I gave her a fifty dollar bill. She gave me back $46.64. I gave the money back to her and told her that she had made a mistake in my favour. She became indignant and informed me she was educated and knew what she was doing, and returned the money again. I gave her the money back again ... same scenario!

I departed the store with the $46.64.

This happened in Austin at Mo Pac Boulevard and Palmer Lane.

2- I walked into a Starbucks with a buy-one-get-one-free coupon for a Grande Latte. I handed it to the girl and she looked over at a little chalkboard that said "buy one-get one free."

"They're already buy-one-get-one-free," she said, "so I guess they're both free." She handed me my free Lattes and I walked out the door.

3- One day I was walking down the beach with some friends when one of them shouted, "Look at that dead bird!"

Someone looked up at the sky and said, "Where?"

4- While looking at a house, my brother asked the real estate agent which direction was north because, he explained, he didn't want the sun waking him up every morning.

She asked, "Does the sun rise in the north?"

When my brother explained that the sun rises in the east, and has for some time, she shook her head and said, "Oh I don't keep up with that stuff."

5- I used to work in technical support for a 24/7 call centre.

One day I got a call from an individual who asked what hours the call centre was open. I told him, "The number you dialled is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week."

He responded, "Is that Eastern or Pacific time?"

Wanting to end the call quickly, I said, "Uh, Pacific."

7- My friends and I were on a beer run and noticed that the cases were discounted 10%. Since it was a big party, we bought 2 cases.

The cashier multiplied 2 times 10% and gave us a 20% discount.

8- I couldn't find my luggage at the airport baggage area, so I went to the lost luggage office and told the woman there that my bags never showed up. She smiled and told me not to worry because she was a trained professional and I was in good hands.

"Now," she asked me, has your plane arrived yet?"

9-  While working at a pizza parlour ... I observed a man ordering a small pizza to go. He appeared to be alone and the cook asked him if he would like it cut into 4 pieces or 6. He thought about it for some time before responding.

"Just cut it into 4 pieces; I don't think I'm hungry enough to eat 6 pieces."

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

The wise man, whom we have called "the Venerable Sage," came one day to the court of King Janaka, ruler of a portion of India. In those early days, people had no lanterns or artificial lights. They used to keep open fires nearby most of the time. The King had a desire to ask this sage some questions about the source of light, but it happened, on that day, that the Sage did not feel inclined to talk. Still, somehow, Janaka got his permission to begin a conversation.

"Revered Sir," the king asked, "What lights a man's way in this world? What is the real source of light?"

"Why, that is easy, O King," the Venerable Sage replied, "the sun lights a man, of course. For, with the sun alone as light, a person sits, goes out, does the day's work, and returns."

"True, Sir! But when the sun has set, what lights one's way in this world?"

"Why, then, O King, the moon is one's light. For, by moonlight, one can sit, or go out, do one's work, and return."

"That is true, O Sage," agreed Janaka. "But," he added, "when the moon also has set, what then?"

"Then fire is one's light, O King. For, by the light of fire, one sits, or goes out, does one's work, and returns."

Again Janaka agreed. "That is true, Sir, but when the sun and moon have set, and the fire has gone out, then what lights one's way in the world?"

"O King," answered the sage, "at that time, voice alone is one's light. By the sound of voices, one can sit, or go out, do one's work, and return. For, when it is so dark that one cannot even see one's hand in front, one can still hear sounds, and move toward them."

"That, too, is true, Sir. But when the sun and moon have set, and the fire has gone out, and all sound has stopped, what then lights one's way in the world?"

"Then the Self, alone, is one's light, Your Majesty. For then one must sit, or go out, do one's work, and return, all with the help of the Self alone."

Janaka happened to know quite a lot about the Self already, but he urged the Venerable Sage to explain more about it. He hoped he could add further to his own spiritual knowledge, so he continued to question the Venerable Sage.

"Which is the Self?" Janaka asked.

"The Self, Your Majesty, is the Knowing One, here among our various parts -- the Inner Light within the heart. It is He who sees this world of our waking state. It is He who sees the world of dream. And, in the dreamless sleep, when we think that we are not seeing, the Self is there, seeing

"There can never be an end to the seeing of the Seer. He is eternal. In deep sleep, you seem to know nothing, but in truth, the Self goes on knowing, for can there ever be an end to the knowing of the Knower? No. He exists forever.

"In the space within your heart lies this One Controller of All, the Master of All. It cannot be destroyed. It does not attach Itself to anything. It is not bound, does not suffer, is not injured. Good and evil do not affect It.

"When a person clearly sees this Self inside as God, the Lord of the past and the future, then he has nothing to fear. This is the undying, fearless Brahman. Fearless, indeed, is Brahman, and he who knows this becomes the fearless Brahman."
